Pakol and acids

Question:
Pakol and acids

Can Pakol be used as packing material on pipes carrying acids?

Answer:

Pakol does not react to acids once it has hardened up. We here at Unipak performed experiments with Pakol and 10% solution of  30% acetic acid and 30% hydrochloric acid and found that once the Pakol has hardened up there will be no reaction with acids. It is however important that the Pakol completely seal the yarn, because the yarn itself is degraded by acids. However, at strongere solutions of acids we recommend using PTFE as packing material.
